HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR MAKE UP BRUSHES: Seven steps to a longer-lasting, more luxurious experience

Kofoworola Teriba

It's never a good time to try to clean your makeup brushes. It's important to do it right away, because if you wait too long, the dirt and bacteria on your brushes can build up and cause more damage than just clogged pores. Cleaning your makeup brushes is an essential part of caring for them. Not only will it keep them looking nice for long, but it'll help you keep any harmful bacteria from growing in your brushes. Whether it's a high-end brush or one that's been passed down from grandma, investing in quality brushes will pay off in the long run. Not only can you use them to apply makeup more effectively and evenly, but you'll also find that the bristles are more resilient and last longer than cheaper options. On this blog post i will be sharing 7 ways to care for your make up brushes.

1. The first thing you need to do is remove all old makeup on your brush—this includes sticky foundation, eye shadows, and other powders. You can either use a toothbrush to get it off or simply rinse it with warm water and soap.

2. Don't use harsh detergents or cleansers on your brushes. This can damage the bristles and cause them to lose their shape over time. Instead, use antibacterial soap or a gentle cleanser like baby shampoo.

3. Don't wash your brushes with hot water! This could damage the base of the bristles and cause them to shrink and become flat. Instead, wash them with warm/lukewarm water.

4. Do not soak your brushes in the water! This may cause bacteria growth on the bristles and make them harder to clean later (or even worse, cause mold).

5. Finally, rinse out in warm water or cleanser (or both) before drying with a towel or set aside to air dry.

6. Store your brushes in a dry place without direct sunlight or heat.

7. Do not let your brushes dry standing up (bristles facing upwards) as Water will move down the bristles to loosen the glue holding the brush hairs together leading the brush to fall apart. The best way is keep in the brush upside down over a piece of paper towel.

Easy right? By carrying out these steps you’re going to not only notice a huge difference in your make up application but also your skin condition, plus it will save you money in the long run.

Until next time, Happy Cleaning!
